Dear Jamie and Staff, On behalf of our Dining Group, we wanted to thank you and your staff, especially Chef Markian, for another year of culinary delights. From the September meal with its nostalgic touches to the final meal in June we experienced so many gastronomic pleasures. Thanks to all who helped in making our fortieth year as a dining group memorable. We look forward to the start of our forty first year in September with the certainty that our palate will respond to the creations so artfully and tastily presented. Christa My husband Tom Haney and I were married at Shadow Lawn Inn in July 2008. As an “older” couple, we wanted a setting which reflected where we now are in life as well as a place we could return to on our anniversaries. We could not have picked a better setting than lovely Shadow Lawn in picture perfect Rothesay. Pat Gallagher and his staff embraced our “East meets West” theme with N.B. Lobster and Alberta Beef. Planning a wedding even a small one from afar is never easy but it was in our case because of the masterful way even the smallest detail was handled. Our guests from across the country were charmed by the elegance and grace of the location and the warmth of the host and staff. A lovely afternoon turned into a balmy evening with guests spilling out of the stately Inn onto immaculate lawns, listening to music drifting from inside. Last year we enjoyed a marvelous anniversary dinner there and it too was a special evening. We will be back later this month to celebrate our 2010 anniversary at Shadow Lawn Inn albeit a little later in the month. My husband and I highly recommend this remarkable venue for any special occasion. We will definitely be back. Roxanne That's 359 Steak Dinners for Me, and Counting! (Submitted by John Gahagan) Sometime before 1975 four friends thought it would be a good idea to go out once a month for an evening of good food in beautiful surroundings. All four were either teachers at Millidgeville North High School or spouses of Millidgeville teachers. Wilf and Anne Harrison, Nicholas Nicholas and Ginger Gahagan were the original four. Ginger, my wife, convinced me to join them for the conversation even though I had no interest in food. Shadow Lawn Inn under the ownership of Willie Ward and with the cooking done by his wife Jean was chosen. Willie and Jean devised menus which interested the members of the group, (well, I had steak, mashed potatoes and peas every time) and acted as hosts. In the late eighties there was the phenomenon of Murder parties and the Millidgeville group held two – a hippy sixties murder and an Agatha Christie thirties style murder. Shadow Lawn Inn was, of course, the venue for both. The group continued after the Wards sold to Pat and Margret Gallagher and after they sold to Jamie and Mary Ann Gallagher. People joined and left the group but it has grown to a steady fifteen or so at each month’s get together. For at least 36 years the group has met once a month through the school year with only one cancellation in all that time and that was February 2011 because of snow. That’s 359 steak dinners for me, and counting! |
